Hubble 25th Anniversary Plans

As the year draws to a close it is time to look ahead to 2015, the year that marks 25 years of Hubble.
The plans for celebration have already begun with a variety of public activities on the table and it is time to let you know about what ESA/Hubble has in store.
Ode to Hubble, is a public competition which will launch early next year and give everybody the chance to get creative and show how Hubble has inspired them. As long as it can be uploaded as a YouTube video, anything can be entered: a pan over a drawing, a scroll over a poem or text, a Hubblecast, a performance, a speech, a piece of music, or an animation uploaded as a video piece. Just as long as it innovative, creative and, most of all, inspired by Hubble, or one of its great discoveries or images.
The two winners, on under 25 years old and the other over 25, will receive a small fragment of solar array, cut from one of the first generation arrays and preserved in perspex. These wonderful pieces of memorabilia will be sent out to the winners and presented to a selection of other award winners at a ceremony held on 24 April in Washington DC.
The unveiling of the 25th anniversary image, will occur at up to a hundred institutions across Europe. We will be sending high quality prints of the 25th anniversary image to a selection of institutions who will combine an unveiling event, synchronised with the one to occur in Baltimore during the symposium, with their own events and talks about Hubble.
If you know of any science centres, planetaria, museums and other informal education venues in Europe who may be interested in putting in a proposal to receive a print please ask them to keep an eye on the 25th anniversary website where more information will appear soon.
Ten fulldome clips for planetaria, will be released throughout the year. These very short clips are to be used in planetarium shows and showcase Hubble and its stunning images and will be distributed worldwide for free.
In addition to all this there will be widespread promotion across all ESA and NASA channels culminating in a huge symposium over Hubble’s birthday week. You can read more about the symposium in our Hubble 2020 symposium announcement.
