Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS)

This image shows a diagram of the STIS, a spectrograph with a camera mode, installed on the Hubble Space Telescope. It operated continuously from 1997 to 2004, when a power failure rendered it inoperable. The instrument was successfully repaired in 2009 during Servicing Mission 4 and science operations have now been resumed.
