19 December 2016: The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) Great Websites for Kids (GWS) has selected Space Scoop as one of the ten best websites for young children up to 14 years of age. ALSC is a division of the American Library Association (ALA) and the selection of the Great Websites for Kids by the GWS committee takes place three times a year. Hubble is one of the partner research institutes that provide content for Space Scoop, alongside ESO, ESA, NASA Chandra, the Las Cumbres Observatory and others. The Space Scoop website was launched one year ago as part of the European Commission-funded EU Universe Awareness and EU Space Awareness projects. Every week it brings the latest astronomy news in a form suitable for children and their teachers, to educate and to inspire. 15 December 2016: Since astronomers discovered that the stars in the sky are other suns, humanity has wondered if they are also orbited by planets and if those planets host alien life. Since the discovery of the first exoplanet only 25 years ago Hubble is among the many instruments trying to answer these questions. 15 December 2016: The 21st issue of the Communicating Astronomy with the Public journal is out now! In this issue our contributors outline a summer programme in astronomy for high-school students; evaluate a massive open online class in astronomy; provide essential tips on how to write a successful press release; and describe astronomy communication at its most informal — a growing programme of astronomy events held in bars. In this issue astronomy communication practitioners share with us new sonification software designed to bring the Universe to the visually impaired; they reflect on the impact of social-media-driven competitions; they discuss projects that engage with the people behind the science and counter traditional views of science; and they explain and explore licensing of astronomy assets. 26 July 2016: For more than two decades the science and images from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope — a successful collaboration between NASA and the European Space Agency — have helped us to see further, shifted our perspective and inspired astronomers, artists and public alike to ask, and endeavour to answer, the deep existential questions that we all share: Where do we came from? Where are we going? Are we alone? These are questions that are of great interest to professional astronomers, but also have deep meaning for everybody on Earth. 20 May 2016: Ten years ago the Universe Awareness project was launched. To celebrate this anniversary, and the launch of the new Space Scoop website, a global contest has been launched inviting the readers of Space Scoop to create their own Space Scoop comic. Space Scoop provides a comic template — all you have to do is to select a released text and let your creativity flow! Artwork using traditional media such as watercolour, pencils, mosaic and chalk is welcome, as is work created using digital software like Paint, GIMP or Adobe Illustrator. Three winners will be selected in each participating country, one for each age category (8-11 years, 12-15 years, and 16-18 years). Each winner will receive a cosmic goody bag and a certificate. In addition, the winning artwork will be displayed on the international Universe Awareness website. The winning entries from all countries will then be evaluated by an international panel …

21 April 2016: On 24 April 1990, the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope was sent into orbit aboard the space shuttle Discovery. Now it is celebrating its 26th anniversary. As in the last years Hubble spent a modest portion of its observing time to observe a special chosen object. This year, Hubble re-observed an object, it already captured over 15 years ago: NGC 7635, better known as the Bubble Nebula.
